How can I comfort my 6 wk old kitten?

I just got a 6 wk old kitten 3 dys ago. He quickly adapted to me, he's very needy and follows me everywhere constantly meowing. I feed him, he eats, does his business, and continues to meow up at me. I pick him up to try and comfort him and he just clings on to me, still meowing. I just want him to cuddle up with me and make him feel safe but me picking him up and holding him next to me but that doesn't seem to help, he just keeps meowing and trying to crawl down my back. Is he just a hyper kitty? What is he trying to tell?
